About Us

Cambodian Association of South Australia is a non-profit community organisation

Overview

The Cambodian Association of South Australia Inc has served the Khmer community in SA for over 30 years. It currently services approximately 10,000 Khmer people in South Australia.

Our Mission

To deliver quality services to disadvantaged member of our community.

Our Vision

To be recognised as a leading non-profit organisation in delivering welfare services to the Cambodian community in South Australia.

A brief history

The association was founded as a secular apolitical association in 1981 by the first refugees to escape to Australia from the killing fields of Cambodia. It was originally set up to help Cambodian refugees resettle in South Australia. In the mid 2000's many of the association's programs were handed over to third party providers. Gambling counselling was taken over by Anglicare, aged care was taken over by ACH and the Youth Connect Program was taken over by the Multicultural Community Council. At the time each organisation promises to provide a Khmer focus to their operations. With time that focus has been completely lost. By 2007 the association had regarded its work as largely complete and demise its activities due to corruption. However, recently it has been determined that there is now an increasing need for its services such as couselling, respite, mediation, immigration, health, education, employment, accomodation and finance etc.
